Low-cost housing projects in Pakistan

Karachi: Al Manzil Builders and Developers Pakistan and Lightweight Construction Methodology (LCM) Malaysia have inked the joint venture agreement to introduce low cost housing project (LCHP) in Pakistan. This was stated by Mashhood Qazi, Director Administration in a signing ceremony.

He said that due to swift hike in the price of land and construction material in Pakistan, low-income segment is deprived of providing shelter to their families especially in a city like Karachi. Keeping this in view, Al-Manzil has chalked out a plan to launch housing scheme aimed to facilitate low-income group.

He said that company has joined hands with LCM, Malaysia, who has a technology to utilise recycled plastic, fibre and palm oil waste to construct fire, heat and earthquake resistant low cost houses, which would definitely facilitate the common man besides helping government to eliminate encroachment across the metropolis.

Qazi further said that the project would be constructed at around 26 acres comprising around 5009 houses of 120 square yards at Northern Bypass near Hamdard University. In his keynote address, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, who presided over the signing ceremony, lauded the effort of Al Manzil to initiate a project, which focuses low-income segment of the society.

He said that due to lack of resources, government has failed to meet the demand of houses, which was 0.15 million per annum causing to raise the encroached and illegal settlements across the city.

He said that housing scheme, which targets low-income group was a need of an hour for high population cities like Karachi and added that this type of housing scheme would play a vital role to eliminate poverty and encroachment across the country.

Muhammad Khalid Abdul Razak, Consul General, Malaysia, Alex Liew, CEO, LCM Malaysia, Haider Abbas Rizvi, MNA, Gul Muhammad Jakhrani, Advisor to CM on Jail Reforms, Moiz-ur-Rehman were also present on the occasion.
