L&T Wins ₹4,468 Crore Contract for Bullet Train Track in Maharashtra.
The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has awarded a ₹4,468 crore contract to Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) for the construction of 157 kilometers of track for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project in Maharashtra.
Under this agreement (T-1 package), L&T will be responsible for the design, supply, and construction of the track from the Mumbai bullet train station to the Zaroli village at the Maharashtra-Gujarat border. The contract also includes all track-related work, including testing and commissioning for the double-line section, as well as track works for four stations and a rolling stock depot in Thane.
The project will use the ballastless slab track system, similar to the Japanese high-speed rail (Shinkansen). This system is composed of four primary components: an RC Track Bed, Cement Asphalt Mortar (CAM), a Pre-cast Track Slab, and Rails with Fasteners. According to the NHSRCL, track construction is already well underway in Gujarat, with work progressing rapidly on more than 200 km of the viaduct under packages T-2 and T-3.
