Maheshwar hydel power project gets environment clearance

Environment Ministry has finally given green signal to the much-awaited Maheshwar hydel power project in Madhya Pradesh.

This go-ahead is being seen as a major fillip to the hydro sector in India. The ministry has allowed the company to fill the reservoir up to 154 mts in the initial stage. At this level, no dislocation or submergence of villages will occur and the company will be able to commence trial runs of the three turbines.

The power-project, which is being constructed downstream of the Indira Sagar project by Shree Maheshwar Hydel Power Corporation Ltd, is expected to generate about 400 MW of power.
