Maradu water treatment plant inching close to completion.
A hundred million litres of water every day will soon be available for the city and its suburbs as the much-awaited Maradu water treatment plant is inching towards completion.
Trial run for water distribution in Maradu municipality is going on currently at the plant. Once the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) wires up the two 1000-kv electrical transformers set up for the plant operation, residents will start getting the water supply.
At present, only 7 million litres of water is being pumped a day to Kumbalam and Kumbalanghi areas. The plant work was completed nearly six months ago, but the electrical work and the pipeline laying works were not completed.
Pipeline laying work is going on in Chellanam, but it may not be completed before October 31 deadline.
However, officials working on the project said they expected to complete all works by mid-November. The plant is expected to provide nearly 40 to 50 mld of water to the corporation area and the rest to Maradu municipality and nearby panchayats.
