MCL inks pact to set up medical college and hospital in Talcher.
The Odisha government recently signed a MoU with Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. for a 100 seated Medical College and 500 bedded Hospital at Talcher.
The state government will provide 20 acres of land free of cost to MCL while the central public sector coal giant will invest Rs. 400 crore for the project.
MCL will take all out measures for completion of the Project by 2016 so as to enable admission of MBBS students during Academic Session 2016-17.
Mr. P.K. Mohapatra, Principal Secretary , health department and Mr. A.N. Sahay, CMD, MCL signed the MoU in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, head minister Damodar Rout and others.
The chief minister called upon other public sector undertakings functioning in Odisha to set up medical college and hospitals in the state.
Referring to the one being established by MCL at Talcher, Mr Patnaik said the hospital will not only cater to the health needs of the people of the region but also, in the long run, address the problem of shortage of doctors.
The CM said that in 2000 when the BJD assumed office, the state had only three medical colleges and today it has eight functional medical colleges while seven others are in various stages of completion.
