Metro DPRs: household data being compiled.
Data is being collected in surveys to prepare the detailed project reports (DPRs) on three corridors of the Metro Rail project for a total length of 39 km.
The longest of them runs 24 km along the highway from Madhurawada to NAD while Tatichetlapalem to East Point Colony and Gurudwara to Old Post Office account for 8 km and 7 km respectively.
While DPRs will be prepared for the total of 39 km, the actual taking up of the work will be decided on funding once the DPRs are prepared, it is learnt.
Eighty per cent of the topographic survey that details the condition of main roads and internal roads, width and the conditions on either side has been completed, say sources.
As part of the traffic survey that comprises three parts a household, socioeconomic survey on citizens’ use of transportation has also been taken up.
A total of 9,000 samples covering all the wards is taken up and data on their mode of travel, frequency, distance covered and money spent has been collected.
The data is being compiled now, say sources.
Traffic volume count and origin-and-destination surveys are being taken up simultaneously over the next few days.
An agency to take up geotechnical survey on soil conditions has been finalised and it will start work next week, it was learnt.
The three surveys are taken up by agencies finalised by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, consultants for the Metro, in mid-January.
'Metro Man' E. Sreedharan, Advisor to the Andhra Pradesh Government on Metro Rail projects, who visited the city last month wanted the surveys to be completed in one and a half months. Sources say the surveys are expected to be completed by the end of the month so as to shift the focus to the design at DMRC paving the way for DPRs.
