Metro to set up 3rd store in Hyderabad.

Metro Cash & Carry, the business-to-business wholesaler, will soon set up another outlet in Hyderabad, investing a sum of Rs. 100 crore.

The company had earlier projected to expand the network to 50 stores by 2020. It currently has a total of 16 stores.

'We typically target cities that have a population of at least 1 million and there are 62 such cities. We would look at opportunities here and depending on what best suits us, we would set up. Earlier we used have stores of around one lakh square feet, but now we are setting up stores of around 60,000 sqft. It could be a lease or owned property,' said Vishal Sehgal, head-corporate relations, Metro Cash & Carry, India.

According to him, around 80-90 per cent of the total products offered, are locally sourced. Also, 60-70 per cent will be from the same state. The third store in Hyderabad will open around July with 8,500 products.

'Ideally, the company would want to have traders, offices and horeca (hotels, restaurants and catering) a one-third share each in the total sales. We now see that the traders share is up,' he said.

In the October to September 2014 period, the company had posted sales of ¤452 million in India.
