Minister sets Sept. 5 deadline to repair PWD roads.

MLAs from the district expressed their angst at National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) ineptitude in repairing the busy and accident-prone Edappally-Aroor NH Bypass.

Speaking at a meeting convened at Aluva recently by Minister for Public Works V.K. Ibrahim Kunju, they blamed NHAI's project implementation unit in Kochi for not repairing gaping potholes that dot the bypass and bridges on the stretch despite three days without rain.

Mr. Kunju said PWD’s NH wing and Roads wing have been asked to repair all damaged roads in Ernakulam district by September 5. On some striking contractors threatening sub-contractors who began road repair works, he said this would hopefully end in a day or two as the strike might be called off. The DMRC would have to repair roads near metro work sites by August 29, Mr. Kunju said.

The meeting was attended by officials of PWD, civic agencies and metro stakeholders.
