MMRC gears up to start work on Metro-3.
After awarding contracts to a consortium of five companies to construct the Rs. 23,000-crore Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor after the monsoon, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRC) is speeding up land acquisition and rehabilitation-related work.
Though the 33.5-km corridor will run fully underground, land on the surface is required for stations and allied facilities including entries and exits and ancillary facilities. The corridor will also require temporary land pockets along the alignment for construction of depot, casting yards, muck storage to facilitate construction of stations and tunnels.
For this, 78.67 hectare (h.a.) would be required. While 75.22 h.a. would be government land, the balance will come from private parties. MMRC officials said so far, they have acquired 64 h.a. of government land. The process is on to acquire private land, they said.
Of the 66 MoUs MMRC is required to sign, seven have been completed.
