The Modi government is setting the stage for a long-term transformation of India, with the goal of becoming a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) by 2047, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, said on Tuesday. Speaking at a symposium organized by the Indian Foundation for Quality Management (IFQM) in the capital, Vaishnaw emphasized that the government’s strategy is built on a robust foundation that will outlast election and business cycles.
Vaishnaw highlighted four key pillars driving this vision: investment in social, physical, and digital infrastructure; promoting an inclusive and harmonious society; creating a vibrant manufacturing and innovation ecosystem; and simplifying compliance and legal frameworks. "Our intent is to build a foundation so strong that the progress made in the last 10 years, and the upcoming five years, will transcend election cycles and resist destructive mindsets," he said.
He also underscored India's strong economic growth momentum, driven by its young population, with a median age of 29. "In 2047, India will still be a young nation, with a median age of 37. Trust, talent, and demographic advantage will continue to propel us forward," Vaishnaw added. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the government, public sector, and private sector to achieve the Viksit Bharat vision.
Vaishnaw emphasized the role of quality in this journey, noting that significant progress has already been made in social infrastructure. He pointed out that the number of IITs and IIMs has doubled in the last decade, and a new university opens in India nearly every week.
At the event, Vaishnaw urged IFQM to contribute quality-related courses to the government's iGOT Karmayogi platform, which focuses on capacity-building for civil servants. He expressed hope that IFQM would positively impact various sectors of the economy, including public, private, and SMEs.
In his opening remarks, Venu Srinivasan, Chairman of IFQM and TVS Motor Company’s Chairman Emeritus, emphasized that IFQM's model is rooted in the Indian gurukul system, where learning is collaborative. He noted that quality is key to staying competitive in today’s market, and IFQM encourages its members to share both their strengths and weaknesses to build strong leadership.
Founded in 2023, IFQM aims to promote transformative changes in Indian industries by institutionalizing a culture of continuous improvement, ultimately enhancing the global perception of Brand India.
