MoRTH approves 50 national highway projects for Manipur.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved 50 national highway projects in Manipur, covering a total length of 1,026 kilometers, as announced in an official release on Tuesday. Notably, 44 of these projects span 902 kilometers in the state's hilly regions. Among these, 36 projects worth ₹12,000 crore, totaling 777 kilometers, are currently in progress, while eight projects comprising 125 kilometers have already been completed.

According to the press release, “Under the Capital Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), the Ministry has approved a prioritized list of work on state roads as submitted by the State Government. Out of the 111 works in the priority list provided by the State Government, the Ministry has greenlit 57 projects based on the Board of Approval (BoS) ratio. The current BoS ratio stands at 9.81, exceeding the permissible limit of 4 for hilly states.” Additionally, the Ministry has included two national highway projects in its Annual Plan for 2024–25, amounting to ₹1,350 crore for a total length of 90 kilometers, both located in hilly areas.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, alongside Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, and senior officials, reviewed the progress of 38 ongoing national highway projects covering 808 kilometers in Manipur during a meeting in Delhi. The focus was on accelerating development in the state, ensuring timely completion of these crucial infrastructure projects, which aim to enhance connectivity and drive economic growth, thereby reaffirming the government's commitment to advancing the North-east region.
