Mumbai Coastal Road Sea Link Connection to Be Completed Soon; Promenade and Parking Set to Open Next Year.

The Mumbai Coastal Road project has reached a significant milestone with the installation of a 44-meter-long span of the northbound coastal road connecting to the Worli Sea Link. However, while work progresses, the full completion of the project is expected to extend into the next year.

Officials have confirmed that the north and south connectivity of the coastal road to the sea link is anticipated to be operational by the end of this year. However, two crucial interchange arms—linking JK Kapur Chowk to the coastal road at Worli and connecting Baroda Palace to Lotus Jetty—are now expected to open in March next year. The delay is attributed to ongoing construction work at the Baroda Palace parking structure, which must be completed before the interchange arm can be operational, while the JK Kapur Chowk connection will proceed once the northbound sea link connector is finalized.

Work is also continuing on the 1,857-car parking facility, with completion expected around May next year. The underground parking lots will be located near Amarsons Garden at Breach Candy, the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) in Worli, Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk (also in Worli), and opposite the Worli Dairy. An Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) is being constructed at the Amarsons Garden car park, which will oversee traffic flow across the entire coastal road using advanced technologies such as traffic sensors and cameras. This system aims to improve traffic management and efficiency while enhancing safety.

Additionally, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is working to open the 7.5 km sea-facing promenade by early next year. The promenade, which will stretch from Priyadarshini Park at Breach Candy to the Worli-end of the sea link, is expected to be 20 meters wide, almost double the length of the existing Marine Drive promenade. It will offer facilities for walkers and joggers through specially designed underpasses.

While the promenade is progressing, the tender process for the landscape design of public spaces, including walking, jogging, and cycling tracks, a butterfly garden, and yoga bays, is still pending due to the election code of conduct. As a result, these open spaces are unlikely to be accessible before the end of next year.

Currently, approximately 20,000 vehicles use the Mumbai Coastal Road daily, with plans for further development to accommodate the city's growing traffic and provide recreational spaces for the public.
