Mumbai: Now, MBPT planning to build a 250-meter high tower in mid-sea.

After planning to give Mumbai its world’s longest and highest ropeway between Sewri and Elephanta Island, there is no stopping for Mumbai Port Trust (MBPT). MBPT now is planning to build a 250-meter high tower in mid-sea.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, the mid-sea 250-meter high tower will have a 360-degree viewing deck on top. There will also be underwater restaurants, entertainment zone, banquet halls and other facilities. And the expected cost of the tower will be over Rs. 300 crore.

“We have carried out a study to figure out the feasibility of the tower’s height and figured that it can be made 250-metre tall. It will take around 24 to 30 months to construct the ropeway and the tower,” an MBPT official told Hindustan Times.

The world’s highest and 8 km long ropeway is proposed by MBPT which will be between Sewri to Elephanta Caves. At present, Elephanta Caves is only accessible via Gateway of India. The ropeway will give bird’s eye view of flamingos and the proposed Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), which is being executed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The 8-km long journey will be completed in approximately 15-minute with a 20-seater cable car. The passengers will travel by a 20-seater cable car, with a transit station. A senior MBPT official told Hindustan Times, Haji Bunder or Kerosene Wharf are the two proposed sites from where the ropeway can start.
