The proposed 1.3-km extension of Nagpur Metro’s Phase 2 on the Kamptee stretch has been submitted to the Maharashtra state government for final approval, following receipt of all internal clearances, according to senior MahaMetro officials.
The ₹300-crore project aims to extend the metro line from its current terminus to Kanhan village and includes the construction of a 500-meter-long steel bridge over the Kanhan River. Once approved by the state, the proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for central clearance. “Only after final approval from the Centre will on-ground work begin,” an official stated.
Part of the broader Phase 2 expansion of Nagpur Metro—currently under construction across all four corridors—the Kamptee stretch was initially planned to end before the Kanhan River, with 12 stations. With the extension, the line will now run from Automotive Square (the Orange Line’s terminal under Phase 1) to Kanhan, adding one more station and increasing the total stretch length to 14.3 km.
Officials highlighted that the extension will enhance connectivity and serve daily commuters more effectively. The original Phase 2 plan spanned 43.8 km, but with the proposed addition, the network will surpass 45 km. The extension was previously announced by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule in February.
