Nashik Gears Up for Simhastha Kumbh Mela with Focus on Road Infrastructure.

Nashik is ramping up preparations for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, with a strong focus on road construction and infrastructure development. Divisional Commissioner Praveen Gedam, during a high-level meeting on Tuesday, directed the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the Public Works Department (PWD) to initiate road construction work at the earliest.

"Since road construction is a time-consuming process, the NMC and PWD have been asked to float tenders and commence work immediately," Gedam stated.

Following a visit to Prayagraj, officials were asked to submit reports outlining key takeaways and requirements for Nashik’s preparations. Gedam emphasized that the expected footfall for the Kumbh Mela in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar could be nearly four times the estimated figures, necessitating large-scale infrastructure enhancements.

To manage the anticipated influx of devotees, the police departments in both urban and rural areas have been tasked with developing a crowd control plan, which will be integrated with the evolving infrastructure network to ensure public safety.

Vaishnav Sadhus, who stay in Nashik city, traditionally bathe at Ram Kund during Amrut Snan, while Shaiva (Naga) Sadhus, based in Trimbakeshwar, take a holy dip at Kushawart. Given the massive congregation of pilgrims, Gedam has stressed the urgency of starting major road projects while also expanding and linking smaller roads to improve traffic flow.

Additionally, he has proposed the creation of large holding areas near Nashik Road railway station to streamline the arrival and departure of pilgrims. "Holding areas will be developed at the Goodshed and the site of the proposed multimodal hub. Extra platforms will also be needed to handle increased rail traffic," Gedam added.

With the Simhastha Kumbh Mela being one of the largest religious gatherings, Nashik authorities are prioritizing infrastructure development to accommodate millions of pilgrims while ensuring a smooth and safe event.
