Navitas Solar Enters EPC Arena Through Zambia Project as Indian Solar Companies Target Africa.

Navitas Solar, a Surat-based solar module manufacturer, has entered the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) business with its first utility-scale project in Africa, underscoring a broader trend of Indian renewable energy companies looking to overseas markets for growth.

The company has secured a contract to develop a 54 MW captive solar power project in Zambia's Serenje Province through its EPC arm, Navitas Planet. Valued at nearly ₹200 crore, the project will supply electricity to a mining company and is expected to be commissioned in the third quarter of FY27.

“This project is meant to meet the captive power needs of a mining company. It should set the ball rolling for a lot more opportunities in the region,” Vijay Menon, Chief Operating Officer of Navitas Solar, told businessline.

For the project, Navitas will deploy its own TOPCon bifacial solar modules, while inverters and other balance-of-system equipment will be procured from an established Chinese manufacturer with service centres in the region. The company expects to source around 50 per cent of the equipment from India.

Founded in 2013, Navitas Solar has an annual module manufacturing capacity of 3 GW. The Zambia project marks its first utility-scale EPC assignment in Africa, following the execution of a 0.5 MW project in Latin America last year.

The move reflects a growing interest among Indian renewable energy companies in Africa, where rising power demand, expanding mining activity and favourable renewable energy policies are creating opportunities for solar developers and EPC contractors beyond the domestic market.
