NBCC Secures ₹1,500 Crore Consultancy Contract for Construction of 1,469 Warehouses
State-owned NBCC has secured a significant project management consultancy contract worth Rs 1,500 crore for the construction of 1,469 warehouses and associated infrastructure within the agriculture sector. The announcement came through a regulatory filing, where NBCC revealed that the project has been awarded by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) and Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) across multiple states.
The scope of work outlined in the contract involves the "construction of 1,469 warehouses and other agricultural infrastructure under the World's Largest Grain Storage Plan in the cooperative sector at various locations across India," according to the statement.
The Union Cabinet had granted approval for the establishment and empowerment of an inter-ministerial committee earlier this year, facilitating the realization of the "World's Largest Grain Storage Plan in Cooperative Sector." The plan involves the convergence of various schemes from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
NBCC's successful bid for this substantial project further reinforces its role in contributing to the development of critical infrastructure within the agriculture sector and aligns with the government's larger vision to enhance storage facilities for grains on a massive scale. The project is anticipated to have a significant impact on India's cooperative sector and address crucial storage challenges in the agricultural supply chain.
