NFR Conducts First Freight Train Trial Run on Shokhuvi-Molvom Railway Section.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully conducted the first trial run of a freight train with Multi-Unit (MU) locomotives on the Shokhuvi-Molvom railway section of the Dhansiri-Zubza new line project in Nagaland, marking a significant step towards enhancing railway connectivity in the state.
The trial run, completed on Tuesday, was a key milestone in the commissioning of the 15.419 km railway stretch, which is expected to be operational within the next few months, NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated in a press release.
The freight train arrived at Molvom around 6 PM, underscoring the strategic importance of the new railway link. Once operational, Molvom station will become Nagaland’s third major railway station after Dimapur and Shokhuvi.
"The new rail link will significantly improve passenger and freight movement, bridging logistical gaps and fostering economic development in the region," Sharma said, adding that enhanced connectivity is expected to attract business opportunities, boost investments, and contribute to Nagaland’s overall socio-economic growth.
The successful freight train trial highlights NFR’s commitment to infrastructure modernization and regional connectivity, paving the way for a more integrated and economically vibrant Nagaland.
