NGEL Signs Land Lease Agreement with AP for Green Hydrogen Hub

NTPC's green energy subsidiary, NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), has sealed a significant land lease agreement with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) for the establishment of a pioneering green hydrogen hub in the state.

The agreement, formalized on Tuesday, outlines plans for the development of an integrated green hydrogen hub spanning 1,200 acres of land near Pudimadaka village in Visakhapatnam's Atchutapuram Mandal.

The envisioned Pudimadaka green hydrogen hub aims to foster a cutting-edge ecosystem for technologies within the emerging energy landscape. This includes the manufacturing of electrolyzers and fuel cells, as well as ancillary industries, incubation centers, testing facilities, and the production and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives like green ammonia and green methanol.

At the heart of the project lies the construction of India's largest green hydrogen production facility, capable of producing 1,200 tonnes per day (TPD). The facility will focus on converting hydrogen into derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol, primarily targeting various international export markets.

NTPC, India's largest power utility with a total installed capacity of 74 gigawatts (GW), has been actively diversifying its portfolio towards renewable energy sources. NGEL, a fully-owned subsidiary dedicated to green energy initiatives, is spearheading projects in renewable energy parks, green hydrogen, energy storage technologies, and Round-the-Clock (RTC) renewable energy solutions.

With ambitious plans to reach 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, NTPC currently boasts 3.4 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, with over 22 GW in the pipeline. The company remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the decarbonization goals of Andhra Pradesh and India at large.
