NHAI to Develop ₹5,729-Crore Ring Road Project in Guwahati.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a concession agreement with Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Pvt Ltd to develop a 121-km long ring road around Guwahati under the Build-Operate-Toll (BOT) model at an estimated cost of ₹5,729 crore.
Designed to streamline long-distance traffic movement along the East-West Corridor of NH-27—considered a vital gateway to the Northeast—the project will enhance connectivity between key towns such as Siliguri, Silchar, Shillong, Jorhat, Tezpur, Jogigopha, and Barpeta.
The Assam government will contribute nearly ₹1,270 crore by bearing 50% of the land acquisition cost and offering exemptions on royalty for construction aggregates and the state portion of GST, taking the total project cost to around ₹7,000 crore.
The project will be executed in three segments: a new 56-km four-lane access-controlled Northern Guwahati Bypass, the widening of an existing 8-km stretch on NH-27 from four to six lanes, and upgrades to a 58-km section of the current bypass. A key feature of the project includes a 3-km major bridge over the Brahmaputra River.
The concession period for the project is 30 years, including a four-year construction phase, NHAI said in a statement.
