NIPER inaugurated in Assam

Guwahati: The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), the sixth in the country, was inaugurated by Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ramvilas Paswan.

Speaking on the occasion, Paswan said the state had tremendous potential for the growth of the pharmaceutical industry because of its proximity to major markets of the north east and other neighbouring countries.

'While there is no dearth of entrepreneurship, a conducive environment is needed and we feel that the NIPER will provide the important linkage by providing an avenue to talented youth of the region by grooming them to work as managers and scientists in pharmaceutical and related industries,' he said.

As the NIPER was being started with the help of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital as the mentor institute, Paswan thanked state Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for helping establish the institute for which 100 acres of land have been already provided.

The Centre will spend about Rs 250 crore on each such institute which will come up in the next two to three years, he said.
