No funds from Centre yet for Mithi development.

While the Mithi River development work is nearing its end, the project has not received any financial aid from New Delhi, despite initial assurances.

Following the 26/7 deluge in Mumbai, a plan to restore the choked Mithi River was undertaken with the formation of Mithi River Development and Protection Authority (MPDPA). The work involves 17.83 km Mithi's rejuvenation by deepening and widening the river, and its beautification.

Accordingly, the work was split between the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (6.40 km) and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (11.43 km). The project was expected to be completed by June 2010.

However, the project has been delayed due to lack of coordination between MMRDA and BMC, political interference, encroachment along banks and coastal regulation zone restrictions.
