In a strategic move towards enhancing efficiency and reducing carbon emissions, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) announced on Tuesday the signing of an agreement with Noida International Airport to construct a dedicated pipeline for jet fuel supply. The agreement, finalized on February 20, outlines plans for the installation of an aviation turbine fuel (ATF) pipeline stretching from BPCL’s Piyala terminal to the airport's tank farm.
Spanning 34 kilometers in length, with a segment of 1.2 kilometers situated within the airport premises, the dedicated ATF pipeline is poised to operate on a common/contract carrier basis. This initiative marks a significant step in streamlining fuel supply logistics and eliminating the reliance on tanker lorry movements, thereby reducing carbon emissions.
Commenting on the partnership, Sukhmal Jain, Director (Marketing) at BPCL, highlighted the company's longstanding commitment to pioneering ATF facilities and allied infrastructure in tandem with the growth of the aviation sector in India.
In response to the collaboration, Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer of Noida International Airport, expressed enthusiasm about the joint effort to develop a common-use fuel transportation pipeline. Emphasizing the alignment of this project with the airport's strategic vision, Jain underscored the importance of offering cost-efficient and sustainable solutions for liquid fuel transportation, particularly in comparison to road transport.
The collaborative endeavor is anticipated to not only enhance operational efficiency but also contribute to a more sustainable future. By leveraging pipeline transportation for jet fuel, both BPCL and Noida International Airport aim to significantly reduce carbon emissions and bolster overall efficiency, thereby fostering a more environmentally friendly and economically viable aviation ecosystem.
