NTPC, VOC Port Partner for 1 MW Green Hydrogen Project.

In a significant stride towards its ambitious green initiatives, the V. O. Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi announced on Friday its plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with state-owned power giant NTPC for the development of a 1 MW green hydrogen production facility.

This collaboration with NTPC is a cornerstone of the port's broader strategy to transition towards sustainable energy solutions. The port's green vision extends further, with ongoing collaborative green corridor studies being conducted with the European Union, the Port of Singapore, and the Port of Rotterdam, in coordination with the Deendayal Port Authority. These international partnerships aim to establish efficient and environmentally friendly shipping routes.

Discussions are also actively progressing with various stakeholders regarding the establishment of a biofuel corridor and the acceleration of other green hydrogen initiatives, the port stated in a release.

Domestically, V. O. Chidambaranar Port is already implementing several eco-friendly measures. Its administrative office is currently undergoing upgrades to achieve green certification standards. A 1 MW Solar Power Project is under execution, demonstrating a commitment to harnessing renewable energy for its operations. Furthermore, a 2 MW Battery Storage System is under active consideration to enhance energy efficiency and reliability. The port has also initiated the tender process for a 6 MW Wind Power Project and facilities for Green Methanol Bunkering, signaling its intent to cater to the growing demand for sustainable marine fuels.

These multifaceted initiatives underscore V. O. Chidambaranar Port's dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and positioning itself as a leader in India's green maritime sector.
