NXP to Invest ₹8,400 Crore in R&D, Announces Karnataka Industries Minister.

Karnataka's Industries Minister M.B. Patil, during a roadshow in the Netherlands to attract global investment ahead of Invest Karnataka 2025, announced that semiconductor company NXP would invest ₹8,400 crore in research and development (R&D) in the state. Patil met with Maurice Geraets, executive director at NXP, where they discussed the company's expansion plans and emphasized Karnataka’s role in strengthening global R&D capabilities.

Geraets reaffirmed NXP’s commitment to Karnataka, highlighting future opportunities for collaboration in startups and workforce skilling initiatives.

Patil also engaged with Philips regarding the continued expansion of their Innovation Campus in Bengaluru, supported by a ₹445 crore (€50 million) investment in 2023. He urged the company to consider establishing a manufacturing facility in the state, offering full facilitation.

The discussions were part of broader efforts to position Karnataka as a global hub for investment and innovation, with a focus on sectors like electronics, aerospace, renewable energy, and the KWIN City initiative.

The delegation also met with Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), where Patil promoted Karnataka as a key manufacturing base under the China+1 strategy. He encouraged investments aimed at both domestic and export markets. Signify, which has contributed to high-profile projects like the lighting of Vidhana Soudha, expressed interest in expanding its collaboration with the state.

In addition, conversations with Heineken focused on Karnataka as a strategic market, with talks centered around policy reforms to accelerate manufacturing investments.

Patil was accompanied by Selvakumar S, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Department of Commerce and Industries, and Gunjan Krishna, IAS, Commissioner for Industrial Development and Director of the Department of Commerce and Industries, in these discussions.
