Pak govt urged to set up solar, nuclear power plants

Peshawar: Arshad Javed Gurwara, a trader of the city, has called for establishment of solar and nuclear power plants to overcome the prevailing shortage of electricity in the country. In a statement, he said that the power generated from solar and nuclear plants would be cheaper as compared to the electricity by the independent power producers (IPPs).

He said that the provision of cheap electricity would cut down the cost of production of the industrial units help enabling the operation of all factories and arresting the growing unemployment in the country.

Gurwara said that the supply of sufficient electricity would also help irrigate the agricultural land to increase the production of wheat, maize and cotton in the country. 'The supply of irrigational water would not only make us self-sufficient, but would also enable us to export to other countries,' he added.
