Peelamedu Residents Urge Railway Station Near Tidel Park.

Residents of Peelamedu and adjacent localities are advocating for the construction of a new railway station in the vicinity of Tidel Park, situated along Hope College Road, citing improved accessibility and convenience for commuters.

Representing the concerns of the residents, RTI activist V Balasubramanian has formally petitioned the district collector, urging the establishment of this crucial infrastructure project directly opposite Tidel Park.

Mr. Balasubramanian emphasized the significant benefits a new railway station would bring to the area. "A new railway station will directly serve the approximately 14,000 individuals employed at Tidel Park," he stated. "Furthermore, it will greatly benefit the numerous visitors attending events at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex."

In contrast, Mr. Balasubramanian highlighted the inadequacies of the existing 70-year-old Peelamedu railway station, particularly its lack of proper transport connections. "The current Peelamedu railway station suffers from poor accessibility, located roughly 2 kilometers north of the main bus stop. There are no dedicated bus services to the station, and auto-rickshaws are infrequent in the area," he explained. He also pointed out the narrow and encroached road leading to the existing station.

"Many people are simply unaware of the Peelamedu railway station's existence due to the absence of any signage on the prominent Avinashi Road," Mr. Balasubramanian added. "Moreover, the limited number of train stoppages further restricts its utility. Currently, the station primarily serves as a facility for loading and unloading goods, particularly steel rods."

The proposal for a new railway station on Hope College Road has garnered support from local stakeholders. A faculty member at a private educational institution near Peelamedu welcomed the initiative, stating, "As someone who commutes from Tirupur, trains are often my preferred mode of transport. However, the accessibility issues and the feeling of insecurity at the Peelamedu station consistently lead me to choose the bus instead. Therefore, establishing a new railway station in this area is an excellent idea. The proposed location offers ample space, adequate street lighting, existing surveillance infrastructure, and readily available transport options."

The residents' demand underscores the need for improved transportation infrastructure to cater to the growing workforce and commercial activity in the Peelamedu-Tidel Park area. The establishment of a new railway station at a more accessible location could significantly enhance connectivity and convenience for a large number of commuters.
