PM Modi to Inaugurate Navi Mumbai Airport and Mumbai Metro Line 3.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Maharashtra on October 8-9 to inaugurate key transport infrastructure projects and hold important meetings with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

On October 8, the Prime Minister will arrive in Navi Mumbai and tour the newly constructed Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) at around 3 PM. He will officially inaugurate the airport at 3:30 PM, along with dedicating several other projects in Mumbai.

The first phase of NMIA, developed under a public–private partnership at a cost of approximately ₹19,650 crore, is India’s largest Greenfield airport project. It is designed to complement the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by reducing congestion and handling up to 90 million passengers and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo annually. Key features of the airport include an Automated People Mover linking passenger terminals and landside infrastructure, sustainable aviation fuel storage, a solar power capacity of around 47 MW, and electric bus services. NMIA will also become India’s first airport connected by water taxi.

In addition, PM Modi will inaugurate Phase 2B of Mumbai Metro Line 3, connecting Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, completing the Aqua Line. This project, costing over ₹37,270 crore, spans 33.5 km with 27 stations and is expected to serve 1.3 million passengers daily. The metro line will enhance connectivity across South Mumbai’s heritage and commercial districts, administrative hubs, and financial centres. It will integrate with railways, airports, other metro lines, and monorail services.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will also launch the “Mumbai One” app, offering integrated ticketing for 11 public transport operators, real-time travel updates, and safety features.

Further, PM Modi will inaugurate the Short-Term Employability Program (STEP) in Maharashtra, aimed at providing skill training across 400 government ITIs and 150 technical high schools. The program will offer 2,500 training batches, including 364 for women and 408 focused on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, electric vehicles, solar energy, and additive manufacturing.
