Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch, dedicate to the nation, and lay foundation stones for projects worth over Rs. 29,400 crore during his visit to Mumbai on Saturday, according to officials.
During the event at NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for the Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the Goregaon Mulund Link Road by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), both featuring twin tunnels.
Additionally, he will initiate the Central Railway's Kalyan yard remodelling and inaugurate the Gati Shakti MultiModal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. He will also dedicate new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and the extension of platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
The Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project, costing Rs 16,600 crore, will establish direct connectivity between Western Express Highway at Borivali and Ghodbunder Road in Thane through twin tube tunnels passing under Sanjay Gandhi National Park. It aims to shorten travel time between Thane and Borivali by 12 kilometers, saving an hour of travel.
The Rs 6,300 crore Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project includes twin tunnels connecting Western Express Highway at Goregaon to Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, reducing current travel time from 75 minutes to 25 minutes, as per BMC officials.
Central Railway's Kalyan Yard remodelling aims to segregate suburban and long-distance train traffic in Mumbai, enhancing operational efficiency and punctuality. The Gati Shakti MultiModal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe will expand capacity for handling commodities like cement, creating employment opportunities in the region.
PM Modi will also launch the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana', with an outlay of Rs 5,600 crore, during his visit. Additionally, he will inaugurate the INS Towers at the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat in Bandra Kurla Complex.
The visit underscores significant infrastructural developments aimed at boosting connectivity, efficiency, and economic growth in Mumbai and its metropolitan region.
