Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil a series of development projects during his visit to Varanasi on Sunday, including several airport initiatives totaling over ₹6,100 crore. Among the key projects is the expansion of the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, which will see the construction of a new terminal building and an expanded runway, costing approximately ₹2,870 crore. Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the RJ Sankara Eye Hospital in the holy city, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Saturday.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stones for new civil enclaves at Agra Airport, valued at over ₹570 crore; Darbhanga Airport, costing around ₹910 crore; and Bagdogra Airport, estimated at ₹1,550 crore. Moreover, he will inaugurate new terminal buildings at airports in Rewa, Ambikapur, and Saharanpur, with a combined cost exceeding ₹220 crore. These enhancements are projected to increase the annual passenger handling capacity of the airports to more than 2.3 crore.

The architectural designs of the new airports draw inspiration from the region's heritage structures, as stated by the PMO.

In addition to airport projects, PM Modi will inaugurate phases 2 and 3 of the redevelopment of the Varanasi Sports Complex, which is being developed under the Khelo India scheme and the Smart City mission at a cost of over ₹210 crore. The upgraded sports complex will feature a National Centre of Excellence, players' hostels, a sports science center, practice fields for various sports, indoor shooting ranges, and combat sports arenas.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate a 100-bed hostel for girls and boys, along with a public pavilion at the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium in Lalpur.

Furthermore, he will initiate tourism development projects in Sarnath, focusing on Buddhist heritage. These improvements include pedestrian-friendly streets, new sewer lines, upgraded drainage systems, and a designated area with modern vending carts to support local handicraft vendors.

Additional initiatives include tourism development at the Banasur Temple and Gurudham Temple, as well as the beautification and redevelopment of local parks, as highlighted in the PMO's statement.
