PNGRB Launches Suo Motu Bidding Process for LPG Pipeline Projects.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) recently said it has initiated a suo motu bidding process for the development of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) pipeline infrastructure aimed at reducing bulk transportation of LPG by road.
The regulator said the proposed pipeline network is intended to streamline LPG movement and minimise reliance on road transport, while also functioning as storage support during periods of supply disruption. The initiative is designed to enhance supply security, particularly in the context of India’s import dependence and global geopolitical uncertainties, including tensions in West Asia and potential disruptions to key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
PNGRB noted that the long-term plan is to eliminate road-based bulk LPG transportation by 2030. It added that the initiative aligns with efforts to build a more robust and future-ready energy infrastructure, promote cleaner fuel usage, and support the government’s broader goal of ensuring accessible, efficient, and sustainable energy for all.
