POWERGRID and Toshiba Unveil India’s First 220kV Mobile GIS System.

Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) and Toshiba have unveiled the country’s first indigenously manufactured 220kV Mobile Gas-Insulated Switchgear (m-GIS) system. The system was delivered to POWERGRID by Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Private Limited (TTDI).

Designed fully in line with POWERGRID’s operational requirements, the 220kV m-GIS is a compact and highly reliable solution for high-voltage power distribution, particularly suited for space-constrained environments.

Highlighting its significance, POWERGRID noted that the mobile system enables rapid deployment, enhancing grid flexibility, resilience, and disaster-readiness. The initiative reflects POWERGRID’s focus on mobility and quick-response capabilities, with the system conceptualised to meet the technical needs of India’s evolving power infrastructure.
