President Murmu Inaugurates L&T Skill Training Hub in Mayurbhanj, Odisha

In a bid to empower tribal youths and provide employment opportunities, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has established a skill training hub in Mayurbhanj, Odisha. The training center, inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday, is part of L&T's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, with a focus on the construction sector.

One of the enthusiastic participants, 18-year-old Pushpita Patra from Pahadpur, Mayurbhanj, shared her aspirations, stating, “I want to step out and work outside my hometown after I complete the training.” Despite dropping out of school in class 10, Patra is optimistic about gaining employment opportunities through the hands-on technical training provided by L&T.

The training hub, constructed on five acres of land, accommodates 179 students, primarily tribal youths from the region. The center's facilities include a multipurpose hall, e-learning hall, digital training room, and separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. The training module, spanning three months, aims to train 1,000 youngsters annually.

Equipped with a pipe welding learning workshop, four service yards, AR/VR technology, and simulators, the center focuses on providing practical, on-ground experience to the participants. L&T, as part of its CSR activities, invests close to ₹150 crore annually.

Upon completion of the training, L&T ensures job placements for students with minimum wages of up to ₹15,000. The initiative aligns with L&T's commitment to fostering a more inclusive society by empowering underprivileged youth through accessible skill training.

Meena Subramanyan, President of Prayas Trust, a non-profit organization operated by women of L&T and funded by the company, emphasized the broader impact of the initiative, stating, “We believe that empowering the underprivileged youth through accessible skill training is not just an investment for their future but a promise of a brighter and more inclusive tomorrow.”

In addition to vocational training, the center will also offer basic computer training and coding for school children in grades 9 to 12, contributing to a holistic approach to skill development and education in the region.
