PSL gets fifth order from GAIL

Mumbai: Pipe manufacturer PSL Ltd said that it has been awarded a fifth consecutive order from GAIL India for supply of coated line pipes valued at Rs 1,928 crore.

The order is for the Vijaipur-Dadri-Bawana Pipeline Project. PSL will supply large diameter helical steel pipes, varying from 20 inches to 48 inches diameter, totalling 470 km as per GAIL’s specifications.

PSL’s Varsana facilities will process the order. Production is expected to commence in July 2008 and completed within the next financial year. “With this recent order, PSL has secured a major chunk of the Indian gas pipelines under construction, demonstrating its ability to compete with domestic and international companies,” said Mr Ashok Punj, MD, PSL Ltd.

The company is in a position to execute both the recently secured HPCL-Mittal pipeline order totalling over Rs 900 crore, along with the newly announced GAIL order, he said.

This contracts secured by PSL from GAIL cumulatively total about Rs 2,700 crore. The earlier orders were for 675 km of pipeline. PSL makes pipes certified to API (American Petroleum Institute) standards for oil, gas and water transmission as well as structural and piling applications for onshore and offshore sectors.

The company has pipe mills in Kandla, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur, besides a recently commissioned unit in Sharjah.
