"Raja Bhoj Airport Masterplan Finalized: Development to be Completed in Three Phases by 2047"

The Airport Authority of India has finalized the masterplan for Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport, outlining a three-phase development strategy to be completed by 2047. The masterplan aims to accommodate future air traffic growth and enhance infrastructure to meet evolving demands.

Phase 1 will focus on immediate infrastructure improvements, including expanding the terminal building, constructing new parking areas, and upgrading air traffic control systems to streamline operations and enhance the passenger experience.

Phase 2 will involve more substantial upgrades, such as building new taxiways, aprons, and hangars to support the increasing number of aircraft. The terminal will also see further expansion to handle growing passenger traffic, positioning Bhopal Airport as a key regional hub.

The final phase, known as Ultimate Capacity, is set to be achieved by 2047. A key component of this phase is extending the runway to 4,000 meters, requiring the acquisition of approximately 65 acres of additional land. This extension will enable the airport to accommodate larger aircraft, expand route options, and handle increased flight volumes, both domestic and international.

Airport Director Ramjee Awasthi emphasized the masterplan's comprehensive approach, which addresses long-term requirements by accommodating expected growth in passenger and cargo traffic while improving infrastructure.

The expansion is expected to bring significant economic benefits, including increased tourism and trade. However, it is essential to ensure that the development is sustainable and minimizes environmental impact.

The finalization of the masterplan marks a significant milestone in the airport's development, setting the stage for a systematic and efficient enhancement of Bhopal Airport to meet future needs.
