Reliance Industries, NLC India Ink Pact for Underground Lignite Gasification Project in Gujarat

NLC India Limited and Reliance Industries Limited will jointly explore the development of an underground lignite gasification project in Gujarat, aimed at boosting domestic gasified fuel supplies amid global energy supply constraints, according to sources.

The public sector undertaking has signed an agreement with Reliance Industries to evaluate the feasibility and technical viability of converting lignite reserves through underground gasification technology.

NLC India holds two lignite blocks in Gujarat that are being considered for the proposed project. Preliminary technical studies for underground gasification at these blocks, in collaboration with Reliance Industries, are currently underway. Reliance has been brought on board for its expertise in advanced gasification technologies, the sources added.
