Residency Hotels to Build Hotel-Convention Centre in Madurai.

The Residency Hotels, part of the Chennai-based Appasamy Group, has announced major expansion plans with new projects in Madurai, Mysuru, and the Maldives. The 34-year-old hospitality brand will set up a hotel-cum-convention centre in Madurai, open a new property in Mysuru, and add a second hotel in the Maldives, with a total investment exceeding ₹500 crore.

According to B Gopinath, CEO of The Residency Hotels, the group is transitioning from budget to premium boutique properties while also upgrading its existing hotels.

In Madurai, the upcoming project will feature 188 rooms and a convention centre spread over 56,000 sq ft, which will include one of the region’s largest banquet halls. The investment in the convention centre alone is estimated at over ₹150 crore, while the average cost per key stands at about ₹1.5 crore. The property is expected to be operational by the first quarter of the next fiscal year.

The Mysuru project will offer 120 rooms and is scheduled for completion by April 2027. Meanwhile, The Residency Hotels is also strengthening its international footprint with the launch of its second property in the Maldives.
