Revamp Planned for Key Roads Connecting Dwarka Expressway and NH-8 with Flyovers and Underpasses

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is gearing up to undertake the redevelopment of two crucial arterial stretches that connect NH-8 and Dwarka Expressway. The move aims to streamline traffic flow and alleviate congestion in Old Gurgaon. The identified stretches are IFFCO Chowk to Mahavir Chowk, covering 4.8 km, and Old Railway Road to Dwarka Expressway via Basai, spanning 6.1 km.

Officials at GMDA have completed a preliminary study of these stretches and are now planning to widen lanes at critical intersections and road segments to remove bottlenecks. Additionally, the project includes the construction of flyovers or underpasses at strategic locations like Basai Road, Old Railway Road, and Sukhrali to ensure smoother vehicular movement.

The comprehensive redevelopment project goes beyond road widening and strengthening. GMDA aims to incorporate provisions for on-street parking, construct footpaths, and set up utility ducts to prevent unnecessary digging. The agency is currently finalizing the project details and anticipates floating a tender after receiving approval.

A senior GMDA official stated, “We have conducted a preliminary study. Some critical stretches have been identified which need to be revamped to facilitate the smooth movement of traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian. We are now working on finalizing the project details and once approved, we will initiate the tender process.”

Upon completion, the project is expected to enhance connectivity between Dwarka Expressway and NH-8, offering an alternative route for commuters traveling between Jhajjar and the city. The current route, primarily via the Basai flyover towards Hero Honda Chowk, witnesses significant traffic. The targeted stretches traverse densely populated areas, including various sectors, unplanned colonies, wholesale markets, and commercial establishments.

Old Gurgaon, in contrast to the more planned and wider roads on the other side of the highway, has faced challenges in keeping up with infrastructure development. The redevelopment initiative aims to address issues such as narrow and encroached roads, frequent traffic jams, and enhance overall urban mobility in the region.
