SAIL Burnpur plant set to go on stream in December.

Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) is likely to commission its steel plant at Burnpur in West Bengal in December.

According to CS Varma, Chairman, SAIL, the blast furnace will be ready and be operational by December following which the project is likely to go on stream.

The Burnpur steel plant - on which SAIL is carrying out modernisation and expansion work - will have 2.5 million tonnes per annum capacity and is estimated to cost of Rs. 17,000 crore.

'Burnpur is likely to be fully operational by December,' Varma told Business Line on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur.

The company will make operational one of its converters in the first week of September, he said.
