Cabot Sanmar, a joint venture between Cabot Corporation and The Sanmar Group, is investing ₹220 crore ($25 million) to expand its fumed silica manufacturing facility in Mettur, near Salem.

The brownfield expansion aims to double the plant’s production capacity to meet rising domestic demand, with commissioning expected in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2027.

The JV’s product, CtAB-O-SIL, is used in diverse sectors including pharmaceuticals, food, paints and coatings, adhesives and sealants, personal care, and crop protection. Approximately 30% of the fumed silica is used in the pharmaceutical industry, while the remaining 70% is consumed in chemical applications across other industries.
