Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made a significant announcement on Thursday, stating that the international airport at Jewar, Noida, is slated to commence operations by the year's end. Speaking in Lok Sabha, Scindia highlighted India's ascent to the fifth-largest aviation market globally, encompassing both domestic and international passengers. He projected that by 2030, India would secure the third position in the world aviation market.
"Uttar Pradesh, initially with six airports, has seen substantial growth under the Modi government, witnessing the development of four additional airports, with five more nearing completion. Jewar airport is on track to commence operations by the end of this year, elevating the state's airport count to 16," Scindia stated.
The Noida airport, situated in the Jewar area of Gautam Buddh Nagar district adjoining Delhi, is anticipated to cater to an estimated 65 lakh passengers annually initially. This figure is projected to escalate to seven crore passengers per year by 2042-43.
Scindia underscored the remarkable surge in airport infrastructure, noting that the nation's airport tally surged from 74 before 2014 to 149 currently. Additionally, passenger numbers witnessed exponential growth, soaring from one crore pre-Covid to 14.5 crore, with 15.20 crore passengers recorded in 2023.
With domestic passenger numbers expected to hit 30 crore in the near future, Scindia emphasized the transformative impact of India's burgeoning aviation sector.
