Select airport projects beyond Greenfield policy: Minister

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel today clarified that new airport projects in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore were out of the ambit of the greenfield airport policy, and would require the approval of the Union Cabinet to be set up.

Patel told the members of the Cabinet consultative committee on civil aviation this was in keeping with the contractual obligations with the private developers of these four airports project.

He, however, added that any other greenfield airport that might come up in any other part of the country only needed the approval of the Steering Committee headed by the civil aviation secretary.

Demand for new airports near Mumbai and Delhi were already approved by the Cabinet before the greenfield airport projects policy was passed.
