Semtech keen to invest Rs. 100 crore in India.
California based Semtech Corporation, a leading supplier of high-quality analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products, plans to invest Rs 100 crore in next two to three years to build up its engineering capability and expand market base in India with a focus on improving sales and offer of technical solution to clients.
Semtech Corporation, which is mostly engaged in design and sales of semiconductors, operates with its Indian arm Semtech Advanced Systems India Pvt Ltd and its country office is located at Bhubaneswar.
'Our turnover in Bhubaneswar is close to $3 million. The Rs 100 crore will invested across India, mainly in Odisha,' said Niraj Mathur, senior director of Semtech Corporation at the inauguration of new design centre here.
On having a manufacturing plant here in view of the Make In India campaign, he said, 'We will evaluate it.'
'Over the last two years we have added extensive advanced semiconductor development capabilities to our Bhubaneswar engineering team and have also formed an IT group. The team has established itself as a center of excellence by driving world-class innovation in electronics,' added Mathur.
'We are assessing the market opportunities in India while building engineering team. We can expand from chip designing to sales and customers support in order to drive business in India,' said Roger Levinson, vice president, System Innovation Group, Semtech Corporation.
He said, Semtech Corporation is targeting to be a $1 billion company by expanding its global foot prints.
The company is keen to be a technology partner in the ensuing Bhubaneswar smart city project and is likely to give a proposal to the state government.
With the inauguration of the new facility, the company intends to take its employee base to 200 from about 70 engineers presently, Mathur said. Currently the research and development team in Bhubaneswar is involved in VLSI Design, embedded systems design, SAP development and Global IT support. Semtech plans to expand the scope of its capabilities in Bhubaneswar in the near future, said Satyajit Mahapatra, director, Semtech.
It may be noted that Semtech had acquired the erstwhile Gennum Corporation globally in March 2012 which had its office in Bhubaneswar since 2008.
