Siemens sets up medical imaging unit.

Munich-based Siemens Healthineers has set up a ‘future-ready’ medical imaging manufacturing facility in the city.

For this, Siemens AG has made a fresh commitment of ₹20 crore in addition to the ₹2,500-crore investment it made in setting up its largest global R&D centre here.

The next-generation manufacturing facility, co-located with the R&D centre, will manufacture diagnostic imaging and advanced therapy solutions such as computed tomography (CT) systems, based on the company’s Somatom go. platform that it co-created with 500 of its customers across 11 geographies.

Siemens will also make mobile C-arm radiology systems and Cios Fit in addition to other equipment and devices for Indian markets and other emerging markets.

“The new platform combines numerous software-led innovations with our novel detector technologies for radically enhanced workflow efficiency, expanded clinical applicability, improved patient experience and meeting the financial requirements of healthcare providers,’’ said the company. firm said.

Gerd Hoefner, MD and president, Siemens Healthcare, said, “Siemens Healthineers is the leader of digitalisation in healthcare. The co-location of manufacturing with R&D centre is especially important as it will enable us to deliver value to customers faster.”

“Over the years,the R&D centre at Bengaluru has grown into a digital hub for the company accounting for over half of all the software engineering talent within Siemens Healthineers.’’

The 5,000 sqft facility is ready for production and to start with, it would employ 70 people.
