Sify to Invest $5 Billion Over Five Years in Data Centre Business: CMD Raju Vegesna.

Sify Technologies, the company that introduced many Indians to the internet back in 1998 as the country’s first private ISP, is now set to make a bold $5 billion investment over the next five years—primarily to scale up its data centre business.

The announcement comes as Sify inaugurated a new data centre campus in Chennai on Thursday, reinforcing its commitment to digital infrastructure. “Data centre is not just real estate, but a technology play—and competition only makes it better,” said Chairman and Managing Director Raju Vegesna in an interaction with businessline.

After acquiring Sify from Satyam Computer Services in 2005, serial tech entrepreneur Vegesna has led the company’s transformation into a ₹4,000 crore integrated ICT services and solutions provider, with business verticals spanning data centres, networking, and digital services.

With demand for cloud, AI, and enterprise digital transformation surging, Sify’s latest investment aims to strengthen its position as a key player in India’s fast-evolving data infrastructure landscape.
