SJVN Green Secures Long-Term Contract to Supply 600 MW Solar Power to Rajasthan

SJVN Green Energy, a subsidiary of state-owned power producer SJVN, has finalized a long-term agreement to provide 600 MW of solar electricity to Rajasthan.

As per a statement from the power ministry, the agreement includes a Power Usage Agreement (PUA) for 500 MW of solar power from the Bikaner Solar Power Project and a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 100 MW of solar power from the Rajasthan Solar Power Project, both spanning a period of 25 years.

The agreements were formally signed between SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) and Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited (RUVITL) in Jaipur on March 10, 2024.

Under the terms of the agreement, SGEL will supply 500 MW of power from the 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project at a tariff of Rs. 2.57 per unit. This project, situated in Banderwala village, Bikaner, Rajasthan, is anticipated to produce 2,454.84 million units of energy in its first year and an aggregate energy output of approximately 56,474 million units over 25 years. The project, estimated to cost Rs 5,491 Crores, is slated for commissioning by September 30, 2024.

With the signing of the PUA, SGEL has now secured tie-ups for the entire capacity of the Bikaner Solar Power Project, with 200 MW allocated to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) and 300 MW to Jammu and Kashmir Power Corporation Limited (JKPCL).

Additionally, SGEL will supply 100 MW of solar power from another project at a tariff of Rs. 2.62 per unit. This project, awarded to SGEL through competitive bidding, is expected to generate 252 million units of energy in the first year and a total energy output of 5,866 million units over 25 years. The project, to be developed on leased land at Nawa, Rajasthan, is estimated to cost around Rs. 550 Crores and will be operated on a Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) basis.

These agreements mark significant strides in Rajasthan's renewable energy sector, underlining the state's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
