SJVN partners with Chhattisgarh for 1800 MW pumped storage project.

SJVN Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Chhattisgarh and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Ltd (CSPGCL) to develop an 1800 MW Pumped Storage Project (PSP) at Kotpali in Chhattisgarh.

The MoU was signed by Sushil Kumar Sharma, Director (Projects) of SJVN, Subodh Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of Chhattisgarh’s Energy Department, and Sanjeev Kumar Katiyar, Managing Director of CSPGCL. The signing ceremony was attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Minister of Commerce & Industry Lakhan Lal Dewangan.

Located in Balrampur District, the Kotpali PSP is an off-stream closed-loop project designed to generate 3,967 million units (MU) of energy annually. The project will store excess energy during off-peak hours and release it during peak demand, enhancing grid stability and efficiency.

SJVN estimates the total investment for the project at ₹9,500 crore. The development is expected to generate employment for around 5,000 people during the construction phase, contributing to regional economic growth.

This initiative aligns with India’s renewable energy goals and aims to strengthen the power infrastructure in Chhattisgarh while promoting sustainable energy solutions.
