Suzlon, Jindal Renewables partner for 400 MW wind power project to decarbonise steel production.

In a significant step toward reducing carbon emissions in India’s steel industry, Pune-based Suzlon Group has secured a 400 MW wind power order from JSP Green Wind 1 Pvt. Ltd., a special purpose vehicle of Jindal Renewables Power Private Ltd. This partnership underscores Suzlon’s leadership in the commercial and industrial (C&I) wind energy sector, advancing India’s clean energy goals.

The project will see the installation of 127 advanced wind turbine generators (WTGs) with Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers, each with a capacity of 3.15 MW, in Karnataka’s Koppal district. The wind power generated will be used for captive consumption at steel plants in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, aiming to make steel production more sustainable. The initiative addresses the challenges of decarbonizing the steel sector, contributing to India's renewable energy targets and carbon reduction efforts.

With this order, Suzlon’s total project portfolio now stands at nearly 5.4 GW, reaffirming its central role in India’s green energy transition.

“We are proud to partner with Jindal Group in this bold move toward a low-carbon future,” said Girish Tanti, Vice-Chairman of Suzlon Group. “This collaboration redefines industrial sustainability and supports India’s 2070 net-zero vision.”

Bharat Saxena, President of Jindal Renewables, emphasized the importance of integrating green energy into steelmaking, adding, “This partnership marks the beginning of a new era in sustainable steel production, aligning with our net-zero commitment by 2047.”

JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, highlighted the critical need for decarbonizing the steel sector to achieve India’s renewable energy goals, calling the collaboration a testament to the country’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” vision.
