Suzlon targets 4.5 GW turbine making capacity within a year.

Suzlon Energy Ltd plans to ramp up its wind turbine generator (WTG) manufacturing capacity by 45% to 4.5 GW within the next year, according to Vice-Chairman Girish Tanti. Currently, the company has an annual production capacity exceeding 3 GW.

Speaking at the 4th Global RE-Invest Summit in Gandhinagar, Tanti explained, “We are expanding our capacity with new product technology, aiming to reach approximately 4.5 GW in the next 12 months.” The expansion will involve increasing capacities at several of Suzlon’s 14 existing facilities and potentially constructing new ones, depending on project locations. Anticipated new projects are planned for Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

Regarding funding for the expansion, Tanti noted that Suzlon is debt-free and will rely on internal accruals to finance the growth. “We have structured our business model and capital expenditure planning to manage through internal resources, with no need to raise new debt for this capacity expansion,” he added.

Suzlon recently secured a significant 1.16-GW order from NTPC Green Energy Ltd, one of the largest orders globally, bringing its total order book to 5 GW.

In terms of succession planning, Tanti highlighted the company’s efforts in leadership development and fast-track growth programs. “We have identified nearly 500 resources for accelerated growth and implemented a strong leadership development program for over 100 senior managers. We also have a dedicated succession planning program for critical positions,” he said.
