Tamil Nadu Approves ₹29 Crore for Industrial Infrastructure Expansion and Footwear Park in Trichy.
The Tamil Nadu government has approved ₹29 crore to enhance infrastructure in Trichy’s Manapparai Sipcot industrial area, meeting growing demand for industrial land. The funds will support the construction of new roads with drainage systems and the establishment of a water supply network to serve the area.
Driven by the growth of the non-leather footwear sector in Perambalur Sipcot, a new 100-acre industrial park will also be developed in Padalur along the Chennai-Trichy highway, functioning as an extension of the existing footwear hub. Manapparai's Sipcot area, initially marketed on a limited portion of its 1,096 acres along the Trichy-Dindigul highway, has seen increased interest, especially since Jabil—a major electronics manufacturer and Apple supplier—announced an investment in the region.
The ₹29 crore allocation will enable Phase II development in Manapparai, preparing additional areas for industrial use. Additionally, the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board has allocated ₹49 crore to establish a permanent water network, delivering 7 MLD from the Cauvery River. A temporary 2.5 MLD supply from TNPL in Manapparai is expected to be available by December 2024.
"Interest in Manapparai Sipcot is rising, particularly from engineering and chemical companies. Improved connectivity via Trichy International Airport and recent infrastructure upgrades are key factors," a senior Sipcot official noted.
In response to high investor interest, Sipcot is also developing a new industrial park in Padalur, which will focus on non-leather footwear production and create job opportunities for rural women. The municipal administration department has allocated funds to supply 1.6 MLD of water from the Kollidam River for Padalur’s industrial needs.
